Yoga in Eastbourne | Best Yoga Classes in Eastbourne

imagesYoga in Eastbourne and the very best Yoga Classes in Eastbourne can be found at the Natural Fitness and Therapy Centre on the seafront, with stunning views of the beach, and the sea… with an uninterrupted view as far as Pevensey Bay.

You can see all this from the windows while you’re enjoying your yoga class…

There are many yoga venues in Eastbourne, but none are able to offer the stunning location with such an amazing outlook as the Natural Fitness and Therapy Centre.

So whether you were looking for yoga in old town, yoga in the Meads, or yoga in Eastbourne at any other location, my advice is to book a lesson at the recently revamped Natural Fitness and Therapy Centre (NF&TC), right next to the Redoubt at Splash Point on Eastbourne seafront.

It’s the perfect location, with the best facilities.

Now you’ve chosen the best venue, you need to choose who will teach you yoga in Eastbourne.

Choosing a Yoga Teacher in Eastbourne… (a personal view)

CHILD POSE

On the face of it, you’d think that choosing a yoga teacher for your “yoga in Eastbourne experience”, would be a relatively straightforward matter… right?

But don’t rush in with both feet… it will pay you to be a little selective!

Perhaps, a little careful deliberation will help you find the yoga teacher in Eastbourne that is perfect for you.

As a male, who will never see 21 again, I was concerned that I might end up in a class of supple ‘yummy mummies’ in tight fitting leotards, where the postures might be difficult and physically demanding.

Caution – Not All Yoga Teachers Might be Right for You

I had been to yoga classes in London, but had never stayed for more than a few weeks, as I didn’t “connect” with the instructors.

More to the point, the yoga teachers didn’t connect with me!

It seemed to me that some (not all) yoga teachers are so wrapped up in the process of teaching yoga, that they fail to adapt their teaching style to cater for the physical capabilities and expectations of the individual.

So I would be led through a standard procedure, without the teacher adapting his/her tuition to take account of my abilities (or lack of them).

One yoga teacher, would literally force me into positions I didn’t feel comfortable with.

The good news is, that I did find the perfect yoga teacher in Eastbourne (more by luck than judgement) and am delighted to say I have been attending her classes for 2 years now!

I couldn’t be happier!

Jan Styles – Is She the Best Yoga Teacher in Eastbourne ?

yoga in eastbourne on mats

This is a personal view, but if I say she is, there would be many yoga students who would agree with me.

After my negative experiences with some yoga teachers in London, who were technically good, but lacked empathy, finding Jan was a breath of fresh air.

In her classes, she takes everybody’s personal circumstances into consideration.

Somehow, Jan manages to move silently around the class, offering support here, a blanket there, or to adapt a posture a little, to make it easier for someone who finds it difficult.

She opens and closes windows and adjusts the thermostat, keeping the ambient temperature just right… all the time talking gently to the class… but you feel she’s talking just to you personally. She keeps the atmosphere light and positive, and we all have fun…

At the end of each session, students enjoy a special quiet moment resting on their mats. Often, during this calm and contemplative time, Jan chants beautiful sacred mantras – I find her magical chanting both touching and uplifting.

I doubt anybody else can quite match Jan’s passion and conviction, or the caring and joyous atmosphere she creates. It is a joy to be on the receiving end.

Is she really the best? Who can tell. But to me, and the rest of the gang in the class I attend, Jan is without question the very best 🙂

After her class, everyone feels renewed and uplifted. We all walk around smiling and saying how calm and tranquil we all feel.

How does she do it?

I’m really not quite sure. One day perhaps I’ll find out, or maybe I won’t, but I’ve been coming to her classes for 2 years and I’m not stopping now 🙂

  1. I would like to tell you about my yoga teacher. Her name is Jan and I go to her Wednesday class where she makes yoga a very pleasurable hour. She is very attentive to each one of us and is great at correcting if your posture is not right .She is a wonderful teacher and I have had a number of tutors over the years!!

  2. I’m so fortunate to have been going to Jan’s classes for at least eight years. They truly are special classes. Jan brings a spiritual energy to the lessons as she takes us through each posture, explaining to us the benefits to our body with each new stretch. I love the way she adapts postures to suit different needs- in my case I have problems with my knees and Jan will always find me an alternative posture that will have the same benefit. Her whole class leaves me feeling relaxed and calm, from the lovely music at the beginning to the relaxation at the end, and I always look forward to her next class.
